Amanda Richmond Rogers Found Dead After Trying to Save Her Drowning Dog

Amanda Richmond Rogers, a 45-year-old woman from Alaska, is believed to have lost her life while trying to save her dog from drowning in a frozen river. She and her husband, Brian Rogers, were hiking along the North Fork Eagle River trail near Anchorage on their 18th wedding anniversary. One of their dogs, Groot, slipped into the water through a hole in the ice, and Brian jumped in to rescue him. In a statement, Brian recounted seeing his wife, an emergency room nurse, diving in to look for their pet. He tried to stop her, but she did not hear him.

Amanda loved her dogs as much as her four children, and she did not hesitate to risk her life for them. He said his wife loved their dogs nearly as much as their children and did not hesitate to risk her life for them. Brain added that his wife did not jump in to save ‘just a dog,’ it was a family member, and to him and their four boys, she died a hero.
