Damien Carter continued to dominate the league as a guard for Richmond. He eventually broke the scoring and assists previously owned by his father. Upon graduating from Richmond in 2001, Damien received a full scholarship to West Point.
The youth is among four players from the 1999 team who are off to four-year colleges on athletic scholarships. Included in the win column is 1999 graduate Wayne Oliver, who, after sliding to a straight-F average before playing for Carter, will now attend Oklahoma’s Cameron University.
Upon graduating from Richmond in 2001, Damien received a full scholarship to West Point. When Damien first went to Richmond, he had a hard time making friends. Worm had called him Malcolm X. Kenyon answered Damien Bell Air when Damien asked them for directions. Jason Lyle was the only white person or player on the team.
Long before Samuel L. Jackson played him on the big screen, the real “Coach Carter” was teaching his students the value of hard work and discipline at Richmond High School. On Thursday night, Ken Carter was reunited with his former students and players.
