Dr. Mark Markarian is a Harvard-trained Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon with extensive surgery experience and a rigorous academic background that have allowed him to create a unique path to find his passion in the field. Dr. Markarian started high school at the age of 11 and college at 15. He studied Biology and Criminology at the University of California, Irvine, completed his Master of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology at Emory University, and then performed clinical research at Yale University. He returned to Georgia to attend medical school, and then completed 6 years of General Surgery training, 3 years of Plastic Surgery training and an additional year of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Harvard University. The Harvard fellowship accepts only 1 plastic surgeon per year, and is regarded by many as not only the top aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship in the US, but as one of the top programs in the world. Following the completion of his training, he became a candidate member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
While he was honing his skills as a surgeon, Dr. Markarian was also an active contributor to the field of plastic surgery, authoring numerous articles and chapters in many prominent journals, as well as presenting clinical research at multiple plastic surgery conferences. He was also selected to be a reviewer for prominent plastic and aesthetic surgery journals and will be editing and authoring chapters in an upcoming Plastic Surgery review textbook.
He was born in London and grew up overseas in Cyprus, Singapore, and Thailand, before relocating to the US at the age of 10. Dr. Markarian speaks 4 languages – English, Armenian, Arabic, and Greek – and his unique background has allowed him to instantly connect with his patients through an unparalleled appreciation and understanding of diversity.
