Sadly, Herb Permillion, owner of Berkeley’s California Typewriter and a former IBM repairman, has died.
He passed away when he was 79 years old. On December 28, 2022, the renowned filmmaker Doug Nichol confirmed Herb Permillion’s passing on Twitter.
Herb Permillion passed away. He began his career with IBM in the 1960s fixing typewriters for the UC Berkeley campus. In the early 1980s, just as the personal computer was becoming popular, he opened his own business on San Pablo Avenue. Through difficult financial times, he maintained it for almost 40 years while taking care of those who still used typewriters, including Bay Area novelists like Danielle Steel and others. On the IBM Selectric, he was a pro. We are sending the Permillion family nothing but love. ❤️
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends, who have been struggling with the loss of such an intelligent and compassionate individual.
