The remains discovered at Shenandoah National Park over the weekend are those of Mateo Cobo Zevallos, Fairfax County police confirmed on Monday.
To ensure that the body was positively identified, it was transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas, Virginia. The cause of the death is also being investigated by officials.
Zevallos was last seen leaving his Oakton, Virginia, home on May 5 to go to George Mason University, and he was reported missing on May 9.
Wednesday’ssearch was initiated when Shenandoah National Park Rangers discovered Zevallos’ car in a parking lot close to the Overall Runs Falls Trail in the park’s northern region.
Before a body was discovered in the park, the search lasted for an entire week.
