Melissa Joan Hart was born on April 18, 1976 in Smithtown, Long Island, New York. She started her career at the age of four when she appeared on a television commercial. She has since appeared in a total of 25 commercials before reaching the age of five.

She then transitioned to television appearing in the miniseries Kane & Abel, in an episode of the television series The Equalizer and starring in a made-for-television film Christmas Snow.

Her breakthrough came in the 1996 television film Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which also became a television series, lasting for seven seasons.
