Tragedy Strikes: Remembering Stephen Skaj and Ryan Rosty

On the fateful evening of August 25, 2023, a heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Casper, leaving the community in shock and grief. The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of Boles Road. Upon their arrival, deputies encountered a scene of immense sorrow – two individuals, both suffering from gunshot wounds, were found unconscious. Despite the efforts of EMS personnel, both individuals, later identified as Stephen Skaj and Ryan Rosty, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Natrona County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 58-year-old Stephen Skaj of Casper, and the suspected shooter as 33-year-old Ryan Rosty, also of Casper. As the news rippled through the community, the next of kin were notified, initiating a period of profound loss and mourning.

The investigation by the Natrona County Sheriff’s Investigators unveiled a tragic sequence of events. It was revealed that a physical altercation occurred between Rosty and Skaj, marking the beginning of a heartrending chain of events. Following the altercation, Skaj began to walk away from Rosty. However, the tragedy deepened as Rosty chose to resort to violence, shooting Skaj before turning the weapon on himself.

The heartbreaking events were witnessed by others, and the physical evidence collected at the scene aligned with their accounts, corroborating the grim sequence of events.
