Ryan Crouser was born into a family of throwers, ranging from his father, to uncles to even his cousins.

His family’s traditional college choice was the University of Oregon. However, he decided to go another route and attend the University of Texas.

As a freshman, he played with the Texas Longhorns. He placed fifth in the shot at the 2012 NCAA indoor championships and fourth in the discus at the outdoor championships.

He later completed a two-year master’s degree in finance in 2016.
