The Real Reason Judge Judy’s Bailiff Isn’t On Her New Show As Judge Judith Sheindlin once squawked to a defendant, “I’m the boss, apple sauce.” Bailiff Petri Hawkins Byrd is learning that lesson the hard way. As Judge Judith Sheindlin once squawked to a defendant, “I’m the boss, apple sauce.”
There’s no word on why Byrd didn’t make the transition — in an interview with the Associated Press last year, Byrd said he would be “honored” to join Judy in her new venture — but Judy praises new bailiff Kevin as “one of the warmest people” in the Judy Justice trailer (which you can watch above).
As the “Judge Judy” bailiff, Petri Hawkins Byrd has been the judge’s right-hand man for the show’s entire 25-year run, and prior to that, he was Sheindlin’s bailiff when she was a Manhattan jurist. As the court officer, he performs the pre-court swearing-in procedure, takes evidence to the bench, and keeps the peace in court.
His role was a minor one on ‘ Judge Judy ‘, nonetheless, Petri Hawkins Byrd was able to make quite the impact as the bailiff on the show, appearing in 25 seasons, which spanned from 1996, all the way to this day and age. Although he’s less present nowadays alongside Judge Judy, that doesn’t mean that the actor’s career came to an end.
